Aloha! Thank you for visiting Pohai
Nani online. We've tried to
capture some of the excitement and beauty of our campus on these pages.
I hope you get a feel for the beauty of the islands when you visit this
site. The words "Pohai Nani" when translated into English from Hawaiian mean "surrounded by beauty." Visitors and residents alike can certainly attest that our name fits! This campus, which was built in 1964, occupies sixteen acres that are filled with lush, tropical plants and trees. Decades old monkey pod trees line our driveway and white ginger, banana, and hibiscus beckon as you stroll our walking paths. The emerald peaks of the Koolau Mountains provide a majestic backdrop while sparkling Kaneohe Bay glistens in the distance. Pohai Nani is owned and operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society. The Good Samaritan Society is a non-profit corporation based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and operates over 240 facilities on the mainland. The Society has been assisting seniors since 1922 and remains committed to its mission to share God's love in word and deed by providing shelter and supportive services to older persons and others in need, believing that, "In Christ's Love, Everyone is Someone." Pohai Nani has a solid continuum of care in place, including 184 senior living apartments and 15 cottages, a ten-resident Care Home and a 42-bed skilled nursing community. We have a dynamic Wellness Program available to our residents at no extra charge. Our Fitness Director, Judy Knutson assesses our residents so she can tailor her water and land aerobics programs to fit individual needs. Reverend Willis Wygant, a resident of Pohai Nani for nineteen years, attends Judy's classes three times a week and says, "The Wellness Program is a big help here. My doctor told me to stay in the program!" I hope you take a tour of Pohai Nani soon. I look forward to welcoming you personally. Luann Foos |
